tagging conventions
Hey, everybody! Since the booru is still new I think that we should lay the groundwork for a consistent system of tagging. First, I'll raise some issues that I noticed, but anyone can participate in this.

1) Do we really need a yukkuri tag? Pics without yukkuri should be the exception, for now I'll remove these whenever I see them.

2) Does the translation tag apply to any pic with japanese text translated in a note? Should the hard_translated and the translated tags ever overlap? I personally don't think so, so I'll remove one when they do.

That's all for now. Hope this booru can take it easy.

1b) touhou tag also seems superfluous. Removing that as well.

3) I think that we should use different tags for different birthing methods. pregnant_(stalk) for stalks, and pregnant_(mammal) for mammalian pregnancy, and pregnant for everything else.

3b) Should we use the pregnant and the pregnant_(stalk) in the same pic so people can find all stalk births by looking up pregnant? For now I'll use both tags.

4) Do yukkuris have second names? marisa_kirisame should be reserved for the actual character, not yumarisa.

2) Actually, after reflecting, I think that the tags should overlap. I'll put it back.

1.) That was a legacy tag, you can feel free to remove it.

2.) Translation applies both to note and hard translations. It is preferred that you have the original japanese with note translation in case there was an error to the original translation. Hard_translated is a translation, but some people don't like it and the such, so I would keep it separate but imply it to translation.

3a.) This is a good idea, so I would use this.

4.) Full names should only refer to non-yukkuri characters for ease of use. In the case of characters without a surname, such as Cirno, use Cirno_(Character).

Hopefully this was helpful.

Yes, it was helpful. It feels weird to act unilaterally on tagging, thank you for responding. Next issue:

5) I don't think that we can make pools, so should we add tags for cute/awesome/funny pics as such? I think that we should but haven't gotten around to tagging all the pics with these tags (I know that the things I find cute/funny are skewed).

5.) I would avoid such tags for now. Mainly because its subjective, but we could create a "disgustingly adorable" knockoff tag that focuses only on extremely HNNNNG-worthy images.

Also thank you for all the work you have been doing so far.

Fair enough.

6) Tags like blush and crying should be reserved for pics where the blushing and crying are an essential part of the pic. If every yukkuri goes around with constantly flushed cheeks, then it's not really a blush either. I'll get rid of the blush and crying tags that I don't think are necessary, if someone disagrees, then explain why and revert it. Fortunately, the booru is young and we can make these changes in a few minutes.

7) Should we tag every single item in a pic? Or just the parts that we think someone might look for. A pic with grass in the background could technically be tagged with grass, but is it necessary?

8) What does the solo tag mean? I think that it should apply to pics of a single yukkuri with minimal background or action. Essentially one-off pictures of a single yukkuri posing.

6.) I agree with that thought.

7.) I wouldn't tag every pic unless it would help someone narrow it down knowing only a few things about it.

8.) Solo means a single yukkuri.

So the solo tag is used like on danbooru? OK. I'm glad to see a new tagging guidelines thread put up and stickied, but I'll continue to post questions here in order to avoid the guideline becoming clustered.

I'd say that over-tagging a pic wouldn't be a problem, but it's not really necessary as long as all the noteworthy elements of the pic are tagged.

Kind of a "better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it" way of thinking.

I'm wondering... Shouldn't the tag "shanghai doll" be redundant considering that there is already a "shanghai" tag?

It is, since Shanghai is a character, she should only be referred to as shanghai. The _doll tag should be used for a doll of a character. I will add this.

I have a suggestion too, regarding yukkuri's braids.

braid_hands for yukkuri's using their braid(s) as hands.

braid_flaps for Reimu-type yukkuri's flapping their braids to levitate.

Would flapping be okay instead of braid_flaps since that might be confused with flaps? Thanks for the suggestion.

For Yukkuris using their braids as hands, its already understood they have prehensile hair, so do we need another tag for it?

Mmm, I guess flapping should be fine enough.

And as for the prehensile hair, while it's understood that they do have them, I thought we could use a tag to make it easier to search for images (with god knows what intention, though) that actually show yukkuri's using their braids as hands.

Oh and let's have tags for backgrounds too.

wild: tags for yukkuri's living in the wild, where the background shows natural habitats.

city: tags for stray yukkuri's or pet yukkuri's on a walk in the streets.

indoors: tags for yukkuri's, pet or otherwise, that are indoors.

pet_cage: tags for yukkuri's in or around pet cages, plastic or metallic or whatever, meant for them to live in.

simple_background: tags for backgrounds that are completely blank without any terrain, objects, etc.

Also...

stalk: tags for images with a stalk, bearing no koyukkuri's, taken off and likely used as koyukkuri's food. If the stalk is still on the mother's forehead, a pregnant_(stalk) tag will be used instead.

stalk_amputation: tags for stalks bearing live premature koyukkuri's that have been severed from the mother's forehead.

It'd help to be systematic, following Danbooru's "tag everything you see" policy.:)

The reason I started using the shanghai_doll tag was to avoid any potential confusion with the city. Which is kind of silly now that I think about it.

As for the stalk_amputation tag, I don't remember seeing that in more than one FF pic (and it was mostly being used as a surreal event). But if there are more than one FF pics with stalk amputation, I think that the tag should be used.

I agree witht the background tagging idea.

I don't agree with the "tag everything you see" though. The reason I use tags is to find more related pics, find a certain pic by some defining feature, and to find out what something is called. I suppose that other people might use them for different reasons, but I don't know that for a fact. I'm trying to only use tags for things that I think a person might look up. So something generic like brown_eyes or tree won't be particularly useful if neither of those things are central or unique to the pic.

My personal tagging policy is to tag all characters (eg anon, patchouli, marisa_kirisame) and all items that are being interacted with by said characters (eg flower, gift, toy) as well as any archetypical yukkuri activities.

Tagging everything only works for something like Danbooru that may not have named characters, or with characters with variable traits, but yukkuri's physicals traits are pretty standard, which is odd considering nothing else about them is.

Also the reason for generic tags is that when something doesn't have that tag, its easier to find it.

I don't think that we can look for pics by specifying what tags it doesn't have. I tried entering -reimu into the search box and got nothing.
